The purpose of this paper is to research the foreign policy of the Republic of Korea, its
political and economic intersts and influence of Korean history on contemporary decisions in
foreign policy. The main part of the paper reviews the Korean Northern Policy and its evolution –
interests of the Republic of Korea in Central Asia, Russian Federation and the Caucasus.
Active cooperation between Georgia and the Republic of Korea, as well as Korea’s
increasing participation in diffent project in the Caucasus, as well as general lack of academic
works regarding history, politics and economic development of Korea, as well as Korean history,
is the main factor assuring importance and relevance of this paper.
This paper reviews in detail evolution of Korea’s Northern Policy, following the collapse
of the Soviet Union and emergence of independent states in Central Asia and the Caucasus, and
reviews theoretical framework to explain the reasons of Korea’s special readiness to participate
in the development of these countries.
The paper aims to increase awareness about the Republic of Korea, and review the
evolution of its foreign policy in regard to Classical Realism theory of Internation Relations
theory.
