Abstract
Social media is gaining more and more popularity in our lives, since this is the space we share
the details of our life. This space reflects our role in real life and pushes individuals to play a
certain role. Social media can be considered as the most comfortable platform for individuals
to express, seek or experiment their identities, which is quite natural phenomenon for human
being, because every individual feel need to belong to some larger body in social, emotional,
or psychological context.
Such popularization of social media and a systematic publication of documents, photos, videos
and other content indicates that the future individe will be less healthy with their fake profiles
and multiple identities.
The research aims to analyze social media and determine its role in the formation of identity
through "Selfie" and "Avatar". The study includes a theoretical overview of different theories
about the identity of individuals.
For research to be done observation techniques has been used on three main social networking
channels, besides in-depth interviews were conducted with active users of social media.
The results showed that there is no significant connection between the two main variables of
our research, based on the results we can say that finding a positive correlation between social
networks and formation of identity is still possible.
