Abstract
Subject of the research of the Master's work is the press, being published in Abkhazian region during 1989 and the socio-political events reflected in it.
Research of published materials revealed how often and in what context Abkhazian press was elucidating socio-political events taking place in the country; how the different opinion was stated, how the authors were evaluated, how the press agenda was created, what were the frames that media used during describing public-political events. The main method of the research is the content analysis of the material.
The research put forward following hypothesis - Abkhazian press of 1989 was experiencing the influence of the Soviet ideology. The Abkhazian media of this period did not create agenda, the agenda was mainly created by the government; journalists were not free in choosing the topics, press agenda in most cases wasdictated by the party and the government, articles were full with ideological influences.
The newspaper publications only partially reflected the socio-political events that were urgent for the whole country; only later, from the second half of 1989, feeling of independence appeared among people and the tendency towards releasing from the pressure of ideology began. Besides, in recent years, reflection of current processes taking place in the country became more frequent.
