Abstract
Following the World War II, a dramatic situation unfolds in Japan. The fate of a nation confident in its victory takes an unexpected turn. An atomic explosion changes everything and turns people filled with samurai spirit, who follow the emperor of divine origin into slaves. For the first time in its existence, Japan falls under the influence of an external power. The occupation, however, does not last long and brings very important changes to Japan, which have an immeasurable effect on its future development. The phenomenon of the nation’s fall and its consecutive rise is an interesting subject for study, as well the matter of enemies becoming allies and then partners with heated relationships. Western influence, namely American, ended up having a beneficial impact on Japan, since USA has been aiming for trading hegemony in the Asian region and did not wish to miss the opportunity of gaining a powerful partner. My aim is to determine what sort of influence did USA have on Japan and why exactly it was exerted. I think the topic is quite relevant, since it relates to leading countries whose past steps may be a good example for developing countries. As for Georgian academic society, the topics related to Far East countries are gaining a lot of popularity due to rapid (and for many people unexplained) economic changes. I think the topic at hand is still new for Georgia and it will help the future in-depth studies.
