Abstract
This thesis aims at assessing the status of Soviet women in the background of the social, political and military situation created in Georgia and the Soviet Union in the 20-30s of the 20th century. In addition, the research not only identifies "new type of women" established during Stalin's rule but also provides the information about them to the society. The task of the research is to raise the role of women, their position and their merits before the Soviet government. At the same time, Stalin's real aims are exposed to women's policies.
The topic is actual due to several reasons. Among them it’s worth mentioning the general public interest in the history of women's rights and making significant changes by the Soviet authorities, contributing to the development of new "functions" for women. What is more, Stalin’s dictatorial attitude towards women's situation intensifies the interest of the issue.
It is noteworthy that in Georgian historiography there is no research on women's status during Stalin's rule and the above-mentioned work is the first attempt of this. The thesis is based on works that are mostly in English but the main part is done on the basis of the Georgian archive materials that make the research topic more valuable as well as more interesting to the general public.
It’s worth noting that these are only the parts of the documents. So in the future there is a great possibility of finding the new ones which makes it difficult to research the topic thoroughly.
