Abstract
The goal of the doctoral thesis research is to review the development of political parties in the United States and to provide answers to the challenges in the Georgian reality based on their experience.
The main tasks of the research are: analysis of the challenges that arose in the early republic of the USA and the methods of solving them; characterizing the importance of political compromises on the example of the early republic of the USA; The study of the history of the development of American parties based on the founding ideas and the assessment of their possible influence on the Georgian political spectrum both during the period of the restoration of independence of Georgia and in the modern era.
The information presented in the study is based on primary sources, including archival documents, interviews with scholars of political parties and the early American republic; Also, modern political commentators, analysts and practical political solutions.
The work discusses the prerequisites for the founding of the United States, the relations between the various colonies, and later, the states. In this process, a compromise solution to the creation of a federal government is described, and after the adoption of the constitution, the beginning of party conflicts. The paper focuses on the uniformity of the main similar and distinguishing features between the parties, from their foundation to the present day. On the other hand, the dissertation describes the birth of Georgian political parties, their cooperation with the American political spectrum and, in general, the beginning and development of GeorgianAmerican relations.
As a result of the research, the following main conclusions were drawn:
1. The United States of America was not a thoroughly united and homogeneous state, naturally tending to the formation of a strong central government and nation, although, from all other possible perspectives, it was the latter that was chosen in order to achieve the Preamble's universal welfare and liberty;
2. After the constitutional convention and the adoption of the constitution, a situation arose which, due to differences in political ideas, gave rise to parties. The USA is the result of the synthesis of their different political logics, on which the views of both Hamilton and Jefferson were equally reflected;
3. Sharing the American experience is extremely important in a young democracy like Georgia, whose main challenges from the beginning were the concentration of power and the difficulty of agreeing on common interests;
4. The main problem of the Georgian party system is, first of all, the temptation of power, which requires strong institutions to avoid. To build the latter, the experience of the early American republic is an excellent example;
5. Partisanism or factionalism is an inseparable part of the history and present of Georgia, which sociologists and historians know well, however, based on the example of America, the formula and prerequisite for success is to rely on compromises and take into account common interests.
