Abstract
This master’s thesis is devoted to contemporary trends in international and national
tourism regulations, solutions to problems.
The first chapter of the thesis “Description of the existing regulatory framework in
international and national tourism” examines the institutional structure of the tourism
industry and actual flaws in legal database, international cooperation in the tourism
industry, Georgia’s environmental protection policy, tourism infrastructure, issues
related to tourism workforce development programs both on national and international
levels.
The second chapter “The role of tourism regulation for the sustainable development of
the sector” analyses the key factors that influence regulation of tourism and facilitate
sustainable development of the sector according to concept. The chapter also describes
the ways of achieving tourism sustainability.
The third chapter “Current status of Georgian tourism regulations: challenges and
recommendations” scrutinized the existing negative factors impeding the development
of tourism service in Georgia, while making recommendations on how to merge market
self-regulations with state regulations (certification, accreditation and licensing
