Results and evaluations of the August 2008 war between Russia and Georgia

After the August 2008 war, Georgia lost 20% of its territory. All this was accompanied by the Georgian government’s admission as if it had started the war. Actually, it was a defensive war against Russia and separatists, because according to the Georgian constitution, «any war waged within the internationally recognized borders of Georgia should be considered a defensive war.»
In addition to the damage and destruction of the civilian population and military personnel, and military and civil infrastructure, the Russian military aggression of August 2008 caused an ecological disaster in Georgia. It is a fact that the government of Georgia made political mistakes and fell into the enemy’s trap. This resulted in the outcomes we are still reaping and no progress is seen to regain the lost territories.
