Abstract
The paper refers to the issue of Islamic fundamentalism in Georgia, in particular the spread of traditional and radical Wahhabism. We are especially focusing on the latter because it is directly related to national security, as it is a significant challenge for the Georgian state.
The research consists of three parts. In the first chapter we have reviewed the principles of Islamic fundamentalism in general and we are talking about the specific manifestation of the phenomenon of the group - "Islamic State". In the second part we analyzed the specific factors which in our opinion led to the spread of Islamic fundamentalism in Georgia. We attach special importance to the unsuccessful political socialization of certain representatives of religious minorities, by providing the largescaled propaganda campaign through social networks by the Islamic State and ensuring differ-ent recourses for the fundamentalists by external forces.
The conclusive third chapter discusses the steps taken by the Georgian government in the fight against Islamic fundamentalism. We have outlined two directions: first- law enforcement authorities’ activities, where special attention is paid to the state security service; the second- civil integration, we discussed as activities of the state agency of religious issues,
also, the civil equality and integration strategy adopted in 2015.
