The articles of Nikoloz Berdznishvili, 19th century historian, ethnographer and one of the first representative of Georgian realistic literary criticism, contain a plentiful issues about literary studies. In his letters we often find the names and surnames of the European writers, which clearly shows author's standpoint and literary thinking abilities of the 19th century readers.
Nikoloz Berdznishvili talks about the purpose and importance of the print media. His publications in the newspaper „Кавказ“ where he evaluates the articles published in "Tsiskari" are especially interesting. His viewpoints are key concepts to determine and evaluate critical thinking of the 19th century Georgian society.
Nikoloz Berdznishvili belongs to the first generation, who founded Georgian literary studies (along with other employees of the magazine „Tsiskari“). He drew parallels of native and European literary texts and gave us some remarks, advices and recommendations. With the magazines "Tsisakri" and "Kavkaz" he discussed Georgian language in the context of world literature. The master's thesis is dedicated to the literary-critical activity of this excellent Georgian scientist.
