Abstract
Georgia is recognized as an ancient center of viticulture and winemaking, which is confirmed by archeological, historical and ethnographic datas. Georgian vines and wine were highly appreciated by the foreign travelers, researchers and authors of the ancient period.
Winemaking is an integral part of the history of Georgia with its 8000-year-long continuous tradition. For this moment, around 525 local autochthonous varieties have been registered, which are constantly being studied. The special attention is for the study of rare vine varieties and their popularization.
The master's thesis is presented in the field of viticulture, the main direction of the research was to study the biological-agricultural properties of some rare Kakhetian grape varieties (Kakhis Tetri, Institutis Grdzelmtevena, Mirzanuli, Vazisubnis Tsiteli, Zhghia), which was carried out at the grape collection of Jigaura station of Scientific Research Center of Agriculture (SRCA).
The aim of the research was to create the research database about these varieties, taking into account the modern approaches, to obtain new experimental materials and to evaluate them according to the descriptors developed by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV).
