In the epoch of postmodernism, the man shifts to the back side, becomes "disassemble", "destroy", "disappear". On the background of this all, one of the important issues is to maintain the person’s individuality. An individuality definition is hard and complex issue. Personality as an individual can be explained by philosophical, psychological, anthropological and social sciences. In our case we will try to explain his definition throught the art. Art is the only one that embraces the interest of almost all scientists in emotionally-imaginative terms and with the help of them, seeks to perceive its specific vision in the essence of events or things. In this theme art is presented as one of the most important ways of expressing personal individuality. It discusses the life tragedy of heros in Thomas Mann’s novels, "Magic Mountain" and "Dr. Faustus", as well writer's personal vision about the theme. The topic discusses the interaction between the art and the individual. The existence of an individual is crucial for the artistic world, and the last one plays a major role in shaping the personality. To some extent, art can serve the freedom of expression and the exchange of different opinions among humans.
